Cyber Essentials – An Introduction
Cyber Essentials Certification is an IT sector and Government-backed program designed to help small and medium-sized businesses protect themselves from cyber threats. This certification sets out five key areas of security which, if implemented correctly, will provide basic protection against the most common forms of cyber-attack. The certification is suitable for any organisation that needs to demonstrate their ability to defend against cyber threats in order to do business with other organisations or public sector contracts.
The Certification covers five key areas:
Boundary firewalls and internet gateways.
Secure configuration.
User access control.
Malware protection.
Patch management and software updates.
Organisations must demonstrate that they have taken appropriate steps in each area by completing an online self-assessment questionnaire. To achieve CE Plus this extends to include technical tests conducted by an independent assessor.
